Information on Tourist Visas for Australian’s travelling to Nepal
Finding information about types of visas, prices, and requirements can be very difficult from Australia, especially if you are hoping to stay longer than five months. The Embassy in Canberra
and the Consulate in Melbourne
, have little information and many enquiries go unanswered.
When applying at the Embassy in Canberra, the cost of a 90 day tourist visa, which is processed on the spot, is $US150, as of 15/2/2011. A 30 day tourist visa, processed on the spot, is $AUS60.
Australian passport holders are able to apply for a tourist visa on arrival at the Kathmandu airport. A 90 day tourist visa will cost $US100 but you need to pay in Nepali Rupees. There is a money exchange near the visa desk. This option is by far the most efficient method for obtaining a visa, it is more cost effective and saves a lengthy wait at the embassy.
Travellers should have one passport size photograph and an application form completed and ready for processing on arrival. Visa forms can be downloaded from here
If you require immediate information on visas to Nepal it is advised you contact the Immigration Department of Nepal. Some useful information can also be found on the Smart Traveller website
A tourist visa for Australian’s travelling to Nepal will not be extended past five months. In Australia it is not possible to apply for a tourist visa longer than 90 days.
